How to Get More Exposure

Once your DreamTour is live on our website, thousands of visitors will see it. Will they be convinced? Will they choose your tour amongst dozens of others?

This isn’t a competition - but it is a challenge.

No two DreamTours will be alike - each is distinguished by vastly different locations, levels of difficulty, duration, etc.

Still, you want your tour to stand on its own - a tempting possibility to all who read about it. These are the participants you need - crucial to your DreamTour’s success.

So... you’ll need to get the word out.

Excited to begin?

STEP 1 – Get Lucky (Staff Picks)
Each month, Tour d’Afrique staff choose one DreamTour to highlight for the entire month. It will be featured prominently:

  • in our newsletter, with pictures (sent to 1000s of cyclists)
  • on our homepage
  • on the DreamTours page as our Pick of the Month

Would you like us to choose yours? Create an appealing and unique tour, and we just might!

STEP 2 - Ideas galore
Keep a notebook handy with all your marketing ideas - they’ll arrive when you least expect them. If this is new to you, ask friends and family for their brilliant ideas.

STEP 3 - Swipe our ideas file
For our best ideas and lots of suggestions, download our marketing guide. No matter your target group size, these steps are sure to drum up plenty of interest.

STEP 4 - Create a blog
Now well on your way, it’s time to starting blogging. How very 21st century of you! As a DreamTour creator, you’ll have free access to your own blog on tourdafrique.com. Cool, eh?

Post often to:
  • Create your online journal - a record of your DreamTour quest.
  • Share your news and progress - what have you been up to?
  • Reveal your interests and some background details - why did you choose to build this DreamTour in particular? We’d love to know.
  • Add lots of photos - they’ll really spark others’ imaginations.

This feature is coming soon, please check back.

STEP 5 - Use social networking sites
Whether you’re an avid tweeter (user of Twitter) or a Facebook newbie, the facts don’t lie:

More people than ever are using social networking sites to get together and stay in touch.

Gather a community of friends and like-minded cyclists on one or more of these sites and easily update each other on your ideas and progress.

These sites are ideal if you’re not particularly technical - they’re an easy way to make big announcements and share photos.

STEP 6 - Go local
Reporters often have to dig for local human interest stories. Isn’t it lucky, then, that you and your DreamTour are so very interesting?

If you’re going somewhere unusual - or are taking an unusual route - draft a quick press release and send it their way. Include a quirky or inspiring photo of your last cycling trip - or with the bike you’ll take. Press releases with good photos have a much greater chance of getting needed attention.

Contact local blogs, papers or radio stations - but don’t stop there.

Jump off the pages of your high school or university alumni updates with your exciting news. Print flyers to post in your gym and bike shop - don’t forget your Tour d’Afrique blog address!

Mention your DreamTour to whoever you can, whenever you can.
"And wouldn’t they like to come too?"

Chances are, they would.
