This trip explores five contrasting countries in South East Asia; Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, China and Myanmar/Burma.

Starting in Ho Chi Minh City, the bustling metropolis of Vietnam, we cycle to the Mekong Delta and get our first glimpse of the mighty Mekong River, a constant companion on this journey.

Crossing into Cambodia we travel through rural villages and rice fields to the riverfront capital of Phnom Penh. From here we will have time for a short detour to the expansive temple complex near Siem Reap including the magnificent Angkor Wat and the Tomb Raider famed Ta Prohm. Returning to the Mekong River we follow it north through picturesque Cambodian countryside to Stung Treng where we might be lucky to spot rare pink river dolphins before crossing into Laos.

Southern Laos is stunning with its rivers, islands and fishing villages but the scenery changes as we reach the highlands of the Bolavan plateau with its numerous waterfalls and Hmong tribal villages. Once again rejoining the Mekong River we meander north to the quiet capital of Vientiane before heading into the heart of the country and the ancient city of Luang Prabang filled with Buddhist temples, Royal Palaces and the odd remnant of French colonialism.

Our last cycling days in Laos zig zag north to cross into the mountainous Yunnan province of China. Once again there are the opportunities to try new food and dabble in a new language as we hug the southern border on our way to the Muse-Ruili border point.

Few travellers, let alone cyclists journey into Myanmar which means it remains an absolute delight to travel through. Dirt roads, military border points and curious locals fill our days as we cycle down to Mandalay, across to Inle Lake and south to the distinct and beautiful temple sight of Bagan before ending the journey in Yangon.

This trip looks amazing! Is there any way it could be done over the summer though?

Count in two more for at least 6 weeks of the trip if it is done over the summer of 2012.

I am having second thoughts about the trip. I don't know if I will be fitted for the trip. I would still like to receive the monthly info. Could you please confirm if the trip is a three month one? Thanks.

Hi- this looks like an excellent trip-I'm very interested in this tour-but I would much rather travel in Jan-March rather than the summer. Iv travelled in the region before, the weathers arguably much better between Jan-March,avoiding the heat and humidity in the summer months. patrickreg
