A Police Escort is Always an Exciting Event

Leaving Nairobi, with a police escort out of the city, is always an exciting event. Add to this being sent off by a group of 25 rollerbladers, with us to support Siegfried Van Houtven’s campaign to raise money for Malaria treatments for Kenyan children, and you have quite a spectacle. The cyclists tightly grouped in convoy formation, with rollerbladers skating all over the highway, grabbing onto the police car leading our way, doing a myriad of tricks. Taking the turn south towards Namanga, and waving goodbye to our rollerblader friends, the cyclists enjoyed ever more quiet roads, and the scenic landscapes as we approach Tanzania. There are high expectations to see Mt. Kilimanjaro tomorrow, often clouded in mist, but on a lucky day can be an awe inspiring sight. Tonight the cyclists have enjoyed a demonstration of Kenyan traditional dance and music, surely an appropriate way to say goodbye to this country of contrasts, beauty and smiling people.
