Ethiopia

195

We camp on the border between Ethiopia and Sudan. Actually not, we are camping in No Mans Land but on the Ethiopian side. We shower in the brothel behind the bank for a mere 4 Birr (50 cents). Cold beer is scarce, almost none existing. Warm ones are to be found everywhere, in fact warm everything is to be found everywhere. We want cold ones.

First cycle day in Ethiopia is hot and slow. The mountains divide the peloton, although everybody is starting to look stronger. Tomorrow will be even tougher, but don’t worry because the day after is a rest day.

There they go, there they go

Two lorries in a row

Sometimes fast, sometimes slow

Hills, rock, “faranji give me a buck!”

When days get a little tough

You’ll find half the cyclists on the truck
