I had bicycled as a kid until I commenced a seagoing career at 17 years of age. But it was another 32 years till I again got back on a bike. I now work ashore at the Port of Newcastle in Australia which has allowed cycling to now become a big part of my everyday life.
I have completed a couple of long distance tours over the last few years which I enjoyed greatly and I am well and truely struck by the bug to do more long distance tours. The sense of achievement gained, the comraderie and friendships of the group, with the discovery of new places and cultures from the seat of your own bike has given me great rewards and lifelong memories.
At the NAE I will be catching up with a couple of mates from overseas with who I shared my previous long tours. Friendships gained from previous rides has become like an extended family.
The NAE distance will be greater than twice my longest previous tour so it will be a great challenge. But I am looking forward to meeting other riders and sharing the road with them for 3 months whilst crossing the continent, ocean to ocean. It will be a great adventure and unforgetable life experience.
